I’m going to tell you about Merida, Yucatan which is located in the southeast part of Mexico and its history, economics, and sites and activities in Merida. Did you know that in Merida in 1873 they had 3,317 people and in 2000 they had reached 600,000? They reached this number having lots of natural disasters. Well that doesn’t happen all the time now does it? Well if that caught your interest then keep reading about Merida. Now I’m going to tell you about the history of Merida. This city was founded in 1542 by a man named Francisco De Montejo and was first settled in 1560. Isn’t that a long time apart? This city got its name from a Spanish man named Juan De Maldonado. This cities climate is tropical sub humid with an average of 26° Celsius and a precipitation of 1050 centimetersa year. Also, long ago they used carved Mayan stones to make their buildings. This Merida also has one of the largest Centro Historico districts. That’s it for history but don’t leave yet. This is where I tell you about the sites and activities in Merida. Someone might want to go to Merida because they might be interested in all the history and culture behind these city walls. If you go to Merida you might see the Historic Center, Monumento a la Bandera, which I talked about in the visual and Montejo Drive which most likely honors the founder of this wonderful city. An event that might have attracted visitors and maybe would’ve attracted you too was that they opened golf courses. That may be all for sites and activities that happened in Merida but I’ve still got one more subject to talk about so keep reading. Now it’s time to talk about economics. The current major industries in Merida are fashion and shirt manufacturing. If this industry happened to close down then people would start losing money and some people would even start going bankrupt. This industry helps people out by giving them a chance to get a job and make money. If this industry got a worker that didn’t know how to work the machinery, the whole industries profit decreases. Those are some things that would happen if the industry decided to do certain things. Those are three main things about Merida.
